Winehouse Dies… America Overreacts
I’m just gonna put this out there. The only thing surprising about Amy Winehouse dying is the reaction from the public. People saying she joins talented club of Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin who all died at the age of 27. Here’s the problem Amy Winehouse was not as talented as Joplin, Cobain or Hendrix. Not even close.
Her age has NOTHING to do with her death. If she would have died next year people would have said she died at 28 joining Big Pun, The Big Bopper and Brad Nowell (Sublime). If she’s going to be classified, lump her in the Drug Addict category.
She had one really good album and fell off the face of the planet. Get over it. Drugs and partying were more important than music and it showed in her every action. Saying her death is a tragedy is a complete overreaction. Her death was expected. Her inability to kick a habit is the tragic portion.
I saw Winehouse perform 4 years ago at Lollapalooza. Probably most excited I have ever been to see an act perform (with the exception of Jay-Z & Outkast). I could not have been more disappointed. She forgot the words to her own songs, stood in one place and couldn’t stay on key for the life of her. Check it out:
It’s sad she’s dead but even more sad are the people that once used her as punchlines for their rehab jokes who now glorify her short life as one of music genius.
